The Yakima County Convention and 13th, 14th, and 15th Legislative District Sub-Caucuses will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2018 at 10am, at 402 S 3rd St., Yakima. Pre-register here.

The purpose of this meeting will be to elect Delegates to the State Convention (to be held June 16th 2018 in Wenatchee, WA) and to adopt the 2018 Platform of the Yakima County Democratic Party.  If you wish to become an elected Delegate or Alternate for the State Convention in June, please be prepared to give a short (1 minute or less) speech about why you wish to be a Delegate.

The Caucuses and Convention are open to any registered voter who resides in Yakima County, considers themselves a Democrat and agrees to the recording and public display of their caucus attendance. Anyone who is 17 years old and who will be eligible to vote on Nov. 6th, 2018 will also be eligible to participate. You may also register to vote at the Caucus and will be eligible to participate that day.

If you are unable to attend but wish to be considered as a candidate for Delegate or Alternate to the State Convention, there is an absentee nomination process. Please email Naomi at yccc@yakimademocrats.com if you would like to submit an absentee nomination.

We are aware that there is also a “March for Our Lives” event scheduled for 10am on March 24th. We know many people may also like to participate in this important event, and regret having to ask you to choose one or the other, however the Caucus date and time had been set before the March for Our Lives movement began and we are unable to reschedule. Sign-in for the Caucus/Convention will be open until at least 10:45am. If you would like to attend March for Our Lives, you can do so and still be eligible to run for Delegate as long as you sign in by 10:45. Anyone signing in after 10:45 will still be able to participate in discussion and vote on resolutions and the platform.

Every two years Legislative Districts and County organizations have the chance to update our Platform, which is our statement of values and principles. This is your chance to help shape the vision of our party for the next two years and we welcome your ideas!

Platform items and Resolutions for consideration at the Convention must be submitted by 5 p.m. Thursday, March 22nd, 2018. You can see a resolution template and example here. Please email any resolution(s) and platform ideas to yccc@yakimademocrats.com.

A $10 donation will be requested to help the Yakima County Democrats offset the cost of the Caucuses and Convention, however this is not required in order to participate.

Please pre-register here, and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to call us at 509-452-7197, or email yccc@yakimademocrats.com.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, March 24!
